Harney Street Fitness

I'm really excited to be working with you guys to get into better shape and improve overall fitness.

The money and the contest will be fun, but the important thing is to create a community that can promote real and lasting personal growth and change when it comes to fitness habits - nutrition, exercise, stress management and so on. You know, "As iron sharpens iron, so does one friend sharpen another.'' I think real growth only happens in community, and I have a ton of growing to do in the area of fitness (and a ton of shrinking, for that matter.)

One more point - while we're doing this activity at the place we work, I'd like to think of it as a social rather than a work activity. Feel free to invite other friends from the building or neighborhood to join.

Now - the details:

  • $20 to buy in to the contest
  • We'll weigh in weekly. Weigh ins are required (if you don't weigh in one week - you chip in an extra $5). I'll put a scale in John's old office and we'll start weighing in on Monday morning at 8:30. Everyone who wants to play will need to have weighed in and paid their $20 by the end of the day Thursday.
  • We'll be having our final weigh-in on November 30.
  • Everyone will track exercise at www.fitday.com - accounts are free and it's an easy site to use
  • At the end of the contest, all the money is divided as follows:
  1. 50% of the pot to the person who has most consistently exercised (consistency is determined by the number of days that you've exercised 30 minutes or more)
  2. 30% of the pot to the person who has lost the greatest percentage of weight
  3. 20% of the pot to the person who has lost the second greatest percentage of weight

I'm sure we'll need to figure out some more details, but this should be enough to get us started.

Thanks guys! Let me know if you have any questions.

  1. Alright! Partners in crime! This is a great day to start because according to Brad's scale, I did not behave this weekend. It's on!
